The French author and poet Guillame Apollinaire was famous for his support of innovative art movements, and especially so for the Cubists, whose most prominent members, Picasso and Braque, he befriended. In Dalí’s tribute to him, the Master Surrealist allows his imagination free rein as he illustrates verses written by Apollinaire dedicated to his mistress Madelaine. Dalí reinterprets his many recurring themes including the metamorphosizing of drawers into human limbs in these fluid images.
