In 1934, Dalí created this surrealistic sculpture based on a small Art Nouveau statuette, the “Liberty” (named after the famous London store), through the application of the principles of aerodynamics to part of the form. In doing so, he created a “disturbance” that was aesthetically pleasing while at the same time demonstrating a hysterical irrationality. Over time, this artwork has been given diverse titles, from the poetic Nude with Lyric Appendages, to the more significant, Aerodynamic Nude Deformed By the Action of the Moon Upon the High Seas. In 1973, Dalí improved his first version with slight modifications and gave it the definitive title of Nu Féminin Hystérique et Eérodynamique
