This ambiguous work is derived from a 1934 painting of the same title. The word rain suggests that the indefinable form may have some of the qualities of a drop of water, for it does seem to drip. However, it is impossible to conceive of a droplet being pierced by a hole, or of being upheld by a crutch. This surreal image carries us from the dimension of reality into a supernatural state. A Spanish bean rests on top of the raindrop; this addition was often used by Dalí to complete the dreamlike quality of his works.
